The publisher

西安游狗 was incorporated on 3/20/2012: a different company, not a successor to the 2006 Metin 1 operator. F On 10/31/2016 Webzen grants it the right to use the IP of 《新倚天》 (Metin 1), announced on 2/14/2017 with the contractual obligation to pursue pirates; F that is where the three Chinese convictions over pirate servers come from, all of them for Metin 1 (2019 and 2023). F A 2017 article states that the team had formed around the old 倚天, and that its CEO was a devoted fan of the game. F On 2/10/2020 the Chinese state approves 《新倚天外传》 as a national game. F

The mirror

It is the mirror image of our own story. In the West, kids who loved that game secretly set about remaking it, and twenty years later their community had built an institution (metin2.dev, from 2/1/2014) with rules resembling a legal deposit, a marketplace, terms of sale and a wall of shame: the whole scaffolding of commerce except the right to sell. F In 2021 a community petition asked for a license: 35 signatures. F In China, one of those kids grew up, founded a company, and bought the rights.

And the Chinese scene

It has not disappeared: a portal presenting itself as "the first listing site for 龙驹 private servers" (born 1/16/2010, 119 days after rain), in September 2026 lists 龙驹/倚天2 servers running, opening on a weekly cadence, one of which claims to run on the official European files. F In November 2024, on a Chinese forum, a package sold as "倚天2 官方源代码" was in fact a multilingual Western package. F The flow has reversed: the West now supplies China. And Funmily, Run Up's heir, still keeps four 雲起 regional accounts in its login form: Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia/Singapore and mainland China. F
