※ The 16-bit screen

The 2004 engine always asks for an 800x600 screen at 16-bit colour. Modern Windows no longer offers it unless a compatibility option is set for the game.

The launcher Prime-Yitian2.exe sets that option for you. If the game stops with the error «CreateDevice: Enum & Detect failed», start it from the launcher and not from metin2.bin.
