Guide

Hard runs the untouched client of October 2004. This page lists, system by system, what that client has and what it does not have yet: everything was checked on the client's own files.

·In the 2004 client

Three empiresIn the 2004 client

The client names three empires: 盛唐国 (red), 秦皇国 (yellow) and 思汗国 (blue). You choose one before creating the first character.

Four classes, fixed starting attributesIn the 2004 client

Warrior, assassin, sura and shaman, each with two outfits to choose from. The starting attributes are fixed by class: there are no free points to share out at creation. An account holds four characters.

Skills: two schools per classIn the 2004 client

Each class has two schools; the client registers 36 class skills in all, four per school for warrior and assassin and five per school for sura and shaman. Every skill has 30 levels and three names and icons, one per grade. On Hard the school is chosen from level 5 at the masters of your empire, and it cannot be changed afterwards.

Skill grades and training booksIn the 2004 client

A skill grows in three grades: the first with skill points, the second only with training books (修炼书), the third only through practice. The client's own messages say so when a grade is full. The skill description shows the next level and the range in which the grade can end (17 to 20 for the first grade, 7 to 10 for the second).

Upgrading equipmentIn the 2004 client

The upgrade window (改良) shows the cost in liang and the chance of success, and warns that if the upgrade fails the equipment disappears.

Stones and socketsIn the 2004 client

Equipment can have sockets, and stones (倚天石) are set into them by dragging the stone onto the item. The client's texts also know golden sockets, making new sockets and taking a stone out again.

InventoryIn the 2004 client

Two inventory pages and eleven equipment slots. There are no costumes, no belt and no item-shop window.

Private shopsIn the 2004 client

A player can open a private shop with its own name and prices. The client refuses to open one in the square.

Warehouse with passwordIn the 2004 client

The warehouse is opened with its own password, which can be changed from the window itself.

Trade between playersIn the 2004 client

Two players trade items and gold in a window that both must accept. Equipment you are wearing cannot be traded.

MoneyIn the 2004 client

Money is counted in liang (两) and written the Chinese way, with 万 for ten thousand and 亿 for a hundred million. No more than 1000 can be dropped on the ground at once.

GuildsIn the 2004 client

The guild window has six pages: information, notice board, members, base, skills and ranks. A guild has a level and experience that members donate, and an emblem of 16 by 12 pixels uploaded from the client.

Guild warsIn the 2004 client

A guild challenges another by name; the challenged leader gets a question to accept or refuse, and during the war the client shows a scoreboard.

Duels and revengeIn the 2004 client

On another player the target bar offers Duel, Accept duel and Revenge. Attacks are refused inside safe areas.

Party and the leader's skillIn the 2004 client

A party gives bonus experience, and the leader's party skill unlocks more as it grows: attack and defence grades for everyone, a defender and attackers to appoint, a full heal and the recall of members. The exact thresholds are in the tables of the skills page.

FishingIn the 2004 client

Fishing is in: the rod has a level and a practice counter, the fisherman upgrades it, and every fish caught has a length in centimetres. While the rod is equipped skills cannot be used.

QuestsIn the 2004 client

The quest list is a page of the character window, opened with N, with five lines and a countdown for timed quests.

ChatIn the 2004 client

Four channels: all, party, guild and shout, plus whispers in their own window. A line that starts with # goes to the party, with % to the guild, with ! it is a shout, allowed once every 15 seconds. A word filter rejects insults.

Friends listIn the 2004 client

The messenger lists friends and guild members; from it you whisper, and you travel to a guild member with the guild travel skill.

DeathIn the 2004 client

When you die the client offers two buttons: revive on the spot (原地复活) or in the village (村落复活).

Deleting a characterIn the 2004 client

To delete a character the client asks for the last seven digits of the identity card, as Chinese accounts of 2004 required.

ScreenshotsIn the 2004 client

Print Screen saves a screenshot in the METIN2 folder inside your documents: the Chinese client still writes the game's original name.

A trace of ChinaJoyIn the 2004 client

The label of the test server in the client reads «CHINAJOY 倚天II专用», reserved for Yitian II at ChinaJoy: the line that said simply «test server» is still there, commented out.

·Half there

Auction houseHalf there

The files of an auction and market window are in the client, but the game never creates that window: it cannot be opened.

Guild skills left in KoreanHalf there

The client registers twelve guild skills, four passive and eight active, paid with Dragon God power (龙神力). Their names and descriptions were never translated: in the Chinese client they are still in Korean.

Guild base, buildings and resourcesHalf there

The guild window has a page for a base with a name, a list of buildings and stocks of resources (crystal, ore, water, stones). The page is drawn by the client; that it does anything on the server is not verified.

OptionsHalf there

The options window has two sliders and nothing else: music volume and sound volume. No graphics, name or chat settings.

·Not in the 2004 client

Horse and mountsNot in the 2004 client

There is no horse in the 2004 client: no key to mount, no horse window, no riding skill, not one line of text about it.

Fight modes and alignmentNot in the 2004 client

The 2004 client has no selectable fight mode (peace, guild, free) and no alignment rank under the character's name.

EmotesNot in the 2004 client

The character window has an Emotes tab (表情), but its button is switched off and the page behind it is an empty placeholder still in Korean. There are no emote keys either: the only balloons the client knows are the exclamation mark and the fish.

Fury barNot in the 2004 client

The help window labels a fury gauge and adds, in its own words, «not yet open» (愤怒值 未开放).
